Petunia – coming Tuesday, Sep.9th!

Hi folks!

Well, we feel pretty darn lucky these days. And excited. Great things just keep on coming to the Townhouse! Please see below for the list of upcoming (very soon!) shows. But first a few announcements….

Friday Cask Night Very pleased to announce that we’ll be tapping a cask of Terry’s first Porter tonight at 5pm! All fans of the dark & nutty side will want to be here to sample it before it’s gone… Casks only last us a few hours, so don’t wait too long!

Closed Monday, Labour Day!  We’ve all been going pretty flat out so we’re giving ourselves and the staff a rare day off! We’ll miss you but we’ll be back Tuesday, and with a great event, to boot…

Tuesday Sep. 2nd, 9pm, Print Preview: Labour

Come hear how we work it. An evening of storytelling and spoken word on the theme of labour. Readers for September include Anne Simpson, Stacy Doiron, Emily Kane, and Janette Fecteau. Music by Mary Beth Carty. Please check out this link and send a message if you are interested in reading. There will also be an open mic.

Saturday, Sep. 6th, 9pm, $10, Live Music: Gabe Minnikin & Stan Carew

Folk tunes and storytelling from Townhouse favourite Gabe Minnikin, and host of CBC’s Maritime Morning, Stan Carew.

Tuesday, Sep. 9th, 9pm, $10, Live Music: Petunia & The Minimalist Jug Band

This one is going to be mighty entertaining! Come hear the wicked cowboy-folk/hillbilly-rock sounds of the inimitable Petunia (think Jimmie Rodgers and real old country, or Leon Redbone gone rockabilly) and the off-the-wall, beatnik style spoken word & washtub bass from The Minimalist Jugband! I promise you, Antigonish has never seen the likes!

He has played with literally hundreds, and maybe thousands of musicians (personal highlights from recent west coast tours include Phil Alvin, Exene Cervenka, Wanda Jackson). Imagine that David Lynch and Nick Cave had a hillbilly baby. A hillbilly baby that yodeled…or Tom Waits meets Elvis at Woody Guthrie’s hobo junction. (from his website)

And finally, tickets for Ray Bonneville will go on sale sometime early September – watch for the updates!
